All is progressing well and we are looking forward to being able to move in to the premises.

Upgrading the premises is important as it will extend use of the site for training matched to employment needs and other low cost activities.

Fencing work has begun to secure the site as well as upgrading the main part of the trail to create disabled access. Our next task will be to seek advice on a radar gate installation for disabled access for those not able to manage the step through stiles. For those interested in getting involved, contact us on 07917 659487.

November 2009: The People's Millions (Funding Bid)

Thank you for all those who voted for the Breakheart Community Project. Unfortunately we were not successful through other projects getting higher votes.

We have been told by the Lottery people that the bid was well written and presented and on their visit to the site, they considered it an excellent project. We were recommended to apply for lottery funding through a different scheme which we shall do.

However on the positive side, we have been successful in some funding applications:
- Aggregates Levy - general site maintenance, biodiversity surveys, office equipment and some general buildings maintenance
- Stroud District Council - funding for interpretation boards for the Nature trail
- Grassroots - some funding for training of our volunteers
- Local Contributions - £1500

We have other funding bids in the pipeline, including
Magnox Socio Economic Grants (for the Toilet Block) and the Rural Development Programme for England (equipment for the Centre, upgrading existing buildings, etc.)

We are currently investigating funding from the Low Carbon Buildings Programme for heating the buildings. We shall continue to seek funding and all work will be phased as funding is available.

People's Millions has raised our profile and we are getting volunteers coming forward who are interested in getting involved, one of whom has a degree in environmental science which will be very helpful in this project.

Watch this space - we shall achieve our objective of creating an excellent facility for local people for outdoor activity, leisure and training.
